How does Learning Target Mode create lessons aligned with IEP goals?

Learning Target Mode allows you to set a starting and ending point. Follow the steps shown below to create a new plan and select Learning Target Mode. You will identify a starting and end point based on the student's IEP goal or math learning target.


Step-by-Step Guidance

From your TouchMath Dashboard, select Intervention and Choose "Create New Plan".

Choose "Create and Start Digital Lesson"

Enter the Lesson Details

  • Lesson Name
  • Lesson Mode

Click "Next"

  • Choose two points on the Skills Rainbow:
    • Starting Skill: Where the student currently performs.
    • Target Skill: The goal the student should achieve based on their IEP.
  • Click "Next"
  • The system generates a personalized lesson plan that bridges the starting and target skills with all necessary intermediate skills.

Customize the Plan

Choose the number of problems the student will complete during each lesson

Adjust the difficulty (focus) and types of visual cues to be provided to the student

Click "Save" to assign the plan to the student


Additional Information

  • Set Achievable Goals
    • Create lesson plans with a manageable number of connecting skills (4–5 skills is recommended).
    • Focus on skills that align directly with the student’s IEP while ensuring incremental progress toward the target goal.
    • Once the student achieves the first target skill, update the plan with a new set of goals for continued growth.
  • Reinforce Skills with Digital Practice
    • Use the Reinforcement Mode to revisit previously learned skills or provide additional practice for challenging areas.
    • This mode integrates targeted practice while including related foundational skills to reinforce retention.
  • Monitor and Adjust
    • Track student performance through real-time data available on the dashboard.
    • Adjust the starting and target skills as needed to align with changes in the student’s IEP or their progress.
