Place Value Mats are an instructional resource used throughout the TouchMath program.

When?

  • During teacher modeling and instruction

  • During independent practice

Why?

  • Represent Numbers Visually: Students place base-ten blocks, counters, or digits in the correct columns (e.g., hundreds, tens, ones)
  • Build and Decompose Numbers: Students build numbers by placing manipulatives on the mat or break numbers apart (e.g., 346 = 300 + 40 + 6).
  • Support Operations: Students use the mat to regroup or physically move pieces between columns.
  • Strengthen Place Value Understanding: Students understand that the position of a digit affects its value
  • Interactive Practice: Students engage with numbers in a multisensory activity

What?

  • Blackline Masters
  • Base Ten Blocks, Counters, and similar manipulatives
